Awakening

Last week we talked about how when God gives us a choice that we can either slam the door in His face or we can invited Him in. Talk with Him and He probably has a little nugget, little gift for us but we would never have received that if we had still been sleeping.
His gift may be a fulfilled promise, it could be just a little extra something from God, or it could be His presence. His presence is like nothing else.
I want you to imagine you’re a little kid again. It’s Christmas. Now at my house we don’t do anything on Christmas morning until mom and dad get up. No food, no peaking, nothing. You wait til they wake up. Even still to this day. So it’s Christmas and the parents aren’t up yet. And you’re excited, not just for the presents you will get but you saved up all year for a really nice gift for each person in your family. And you cannot wait til they get up so they can open it up.
How do you think you would feel if they didn’t wake up to open your presents or they just took so long to wake up that your excitement dissipated and you didn’t care anymore?
I would be pretty bummed.
God is just waiting for us to wake up and come to Him to get our gifts from Him. Like mentioned before, his gifts may be His presence, an unexpected little something, or a fulfilled promise.
But we have to be awake to receive it. He isn’t going to give it to us while we’re still sleeping and therefore cannot enjoy it nor can we use it.
We need to be ready to receive it and use it. It is so disappointing to us when a gift we put effort and thought into isn’t appreciated, how much more when His good and perfect gifts given to us aren’t appreciated and used?
God gives us gifts and He wants us to use them.
James 1:16-18 “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”
Acts 1:1-5 v.4 “And being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said, “you have heard from Me”
Matthew 25:29-30 “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the other darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth”
But we have to be ready to receive His promises. We have to be awake to receive it and use it.
If we want Him to fulfill His promises then we have to ready for them to come to fulfillment. We need to act in faith that they’re there.
Healing? Awaken to the healing that is already there provided by His stripes and act as if you’re healed because God has healed you. (Isaiah 53:5)
Finances? Give out of your need and the promise that He will provide everything you need will come to fulfillment. (2 Peter 1:3)
Revival? We need to be awakened to the fact that revival is messy. It is coming and it isn’t going to be pretty. (Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17)
Have you ever watched really dirty gold get put into a refiner’s fire? All the nasty stuff comes to the top then it gets swiped clean. I’ve already talked to you about how this is God’s way – bring it to the surface and wipe it away.
If there is a lot of dirt in your lives, and you’re mature Christians, then they who are out in the world have just as much. And they won’t be poised when they get rid out it. I know I’m not poised when I’m getting rid of crap in my life.
I’m snot-faced, yelling, flailing my arms over the place – yeah I’m real poised (sarcasm) A couple months ago I was going through the process of laying a promise down (that’s a whole lot of fun – sarcasm again) and I was yelling and crying and just being a brat and my poor dog thought I was yelling at him and he was cowering from me. All of that to say, revival isn’t pretty or poised or composed.
If we want that to truly come to our church and our community, we have to – it is imperative – that we be willing to become undone ourselves (get snot-faced in the carpet for God) and let others go through the same thing without us saying anything. We need to be their support for after not during their refining.
Think about it this way, if you mess with the gold as it is being refined you are reintroducing the nasty stuff back into the gold.
You don’t mess with the gold until it is purified and ready for use.
We are not any different.
But we have to be awake. This is the final call to be awakened. I’m not hitting the snooze anymore, what will you do?
